EIA Diesel Prices integration

Keep hauling rates honest as diesel moves — without re-pricing your freight chart by hand.

Overview

NexusYard pulls the weekly retail diesel price from the U.S. Energy Information Administration and compares it to the baseline your freight chart was priced at. When diesel moves, a fuel-surcharge dial adjusts your hauling rates automatically — and you can override it any time.

Best for
Yards that deliver material and want freight pricing that tracks real fuel cost instead of a chart that's always out of date.
What's included
Freight rates that track real diesel cost
A live “diesel now vs. baseline” indicator
One org-wide surcharge dial, applied everywhere
Manual override whenever you want it
Pulls the weekly diesel series from the EIA open-data API (free key). Fail-open — if the feed is stale you keep your last surcharge or set one by hand.
Why NexusYard + EIA Diesel Prices?

The data shows up where the work happens

Always current

Refreshed on a schedule, so you're working from today's data — not a spreadsheet someone exported last quarter.

Built into the workflow

It shows up where the work happens — the scale house, dispatch, the quote, the call sheet — not in a separate tool to remember.

Fail-open by design

If EIA Diesel Prices is briefly unavailable, nothing stops. Operations keep running and the data refreshes on the next successful pull.

No extra software

NexusYard runs the connection for you. There's nothing new for the crew to log into or maintain.

How it works

Set it up once, then it just runs

1Pull

NexusYard fetches the weekly retail diesel price from the EIA (Gulf Coast ULSD, with US-average fallback).

2Compare

Current diesel is compared to the baseline your freight chart was built on.

3Adjust

A fuel-surcharge dial (−50% to +50%) shifts hauling rates to match — applied across every freight quote.

4Override

Set the surcharge by hand any time; the EIA figure is a guide, not a handcuff.

FAQ

EIA Diesel Prices integration questions

Where does the diesel price come from?
The U.S. Energy Information Administration's weekly retail diesel series — it prefers the Gulf Coast (PADD 3) ULSD price and falls back to the US average.
How does it change my rates?
Your freight chart is priced at a diesel baseline. When the current EIA price differs, the fuel-surcharge dial shifts hauling rates up or down to match — across every freight quote at once.
Can I override it?
Yes. The surcharge is a dial you control; the EIA figure is a guide. If the data is stale or you disagree, set the surcharge manually.
What if the feed is down?
It fails open — your last surcharge stays in effect and nothing about quoting or invoicing stops.
